At the 2016 All-Star game, I ask Bobby Bonilla about his annual check after letting him open a pack of my 25 year old baseball cards:
These 1991 Donruss cards are legitimately unopened and, until recently, were sitting in my garage. My grandma bought them in ’91, when she and I collected cards together. They’ve been sitting in storage ever since. Because that era of baseball cards is pretty much worthless, I figure this is a fun use for them.

I don't think this is as big of a deal as people think. Back when he signed the contract I'm sure there were options on the table. The fact he took the money deferred is no hug deal. He gets 1million til what 2035?? He'd been better off taking it all during the contract and investing it on his own.
